The Galapagos, positioned around 600 miles west from the region of Latin America, is quite probably the best possible place to observe evolution throughout its natural splendor.
Named, in Spanish language, after the species which is without a doubt the most well-known of the island chain: The Galapagos Tortoise; the Galapagos offers many clusters of little dainty islands which all are created of undersea volcanoes eruptions.
Located entirely on the equator, the Galapagos gets all the bonuses of such a global placement because all the 16 islands have warm climate all year long! If that wasn’t enough they are on the crossroads for 2 vitally important trade winds: The North East trade winds (coming from North and the South East winds (from South America). These winds are likely what initiated the influx of self-sufficient life around the island chain – and are considered to have been the agent responsible for the vast woods spreading over the higher mountains of the islands.
These island of extraordinary natural charm have resulted in the evolution of countless diverse, and really extraordinary, environments that have in turn permitted (or otherwise forced) the local wildlife, both plants and creatures as well, to grow in manners that basically has numerous researchers astonished.
The rest of the Galapagos chain is yet another scenario of rare, inter-dependent, as well as pretty amazing wildlife.
When is the perfect time to see the Galapagos?
The Galapagos Islands, situated on the Pacific Ocean, around a thousand kilometers west of Ecuador, have a particular climate, warm and semi-arid, which has a very hot and relatively rainy period through January to May, plus a dry and cool period, but also foggy and misty, from July to November.
The landscapes of the Galapagos are dry, except in the bigger islands, which obtain far more abundant rainfall. As was already noted by Charles Darwin, who as you may know examined the peculiarities of the species living in the islands, their weather conditions are cooler than a person would likely assume from a place located nearby the Equator, due to the Humboldt Current, which gets to the location after circulating in the ocean west of South America. Regardless, here the climate is varied from one year to the other, as there are diverse ocean currents which encounter or alternate in the region (there’s also a warm current from Central America, that flows at a little range and is extra active on the periods El Niño), meaning that the weather conditions are difficult to predict.
When you should go
Generally speaking, the Galapagos could be traveled to throughout every season. However, the perfect time to go to the islands, if you also wish to swim and sunbathe, runs from February to May, because it is the most warm and sunniest, although there could possibly be a number of downpours or thunderstorms in the morning.
The low-temperature season, from July to November, is usually encouraged to discover nature, because it rarely rains on the plains and the temperatures are pleasant, even though you have to take into consideration mists, haze and gloomy skies. From September to November the ocean could be a little tough, and this situation may upset people that have problems with motion illness, during boat trips from one isle to the other.
What to pack
From December to May (warm cycle): light outfits, a light sweatshirt for the night time, light raincoat or outdoor umbrella for bad weather showers; sun cap (after all, we are at the Equator). For walking in the hills and the Vulcan Wolf, a bit more comfortable sport shirt and raincoat, trekking footwear.
From June to November (low-temperature cycle): light clothes, t-shirt or sweater and light jacket for the night.
For the reef, gear for surfing, water shoes or rubberized soled shoes.
The Islands are famous for their distinctive vegetation and vast number of native species existing nowhere else on the planet. These include; reddish and blue-footed boobies, frigate birds, giant vivid tortoises, flamingos as well as marine and land iguanas.

Are there any immunizations required?
To the Galapagos Islands there are no required immunizations. If you, however, intend to invest more time in Ecuador, especially in the jungle, immunization is highly suggested. As this changes from time to time please check with the regional health office (or the Institute for Tropical Diseases) a couple weeks in advance of your trip.
Will we have to exchange some money before we travel to Ecuador or after in the country?
Not if you have US dollars. In 2000, Ecuador adopted the US dollar as its official currency. Just be sure you bring money bills in great shape with you. Should they have tears in them, they are likely to be refused.
