Cotopaxi Ecuador - Tours To Cotopaxi Volcano

Book Now!

Cotopaxi, rising 5,897 meters above sea level, with a base width of 23 km, is currently the highest active volcano in the world. It is located 80 km SSE from the country's capital: Quito, a city of 1,865,541, in the Northern Andean mountain belt. Although Ecuador is host to several (26) other active volcanoes (and 250 total), Cotopaxi is considered to be the highest active volcano in the world, its a great attraction for climbing and great highland surroundings.

Similar to two-thirds of all the world's volcanoes, Cotopaxi sits in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a ring of subducting oceanic lithosphere beneath continental lithosphere, creating a zone of volcanoes. The majority of these, like Cotopaxi, are stratovolcanoes.
